Welcome to Vintage Yard Sale Utah©!
Hi! I’m Christine Ishmael and I created this group with the sole purpose of having a place where Utah-living, vintage enthusiasts can buy and sell qualifying items in an online yard sale style atmosphere.
As the group has grown from a couple hundred to over 18,500+ members, so has the need to clarify and manage order among thousands of people who are all trying to make and save some bucks.
Your membership in the groups says to me that you have reviewed the guidelines, understand them and will conduct your business in the group using the provided guidelines. Guidelines do get updated and revised so check back often.
This group is FREE for you to buy/sell your items (advertising is charged a nominal fee), Administrators are unpaid volunteers.
AGE of ITEMS: All items, including upcycled, must be older than 1990: pre-1929 = antique, 1930-59 = vintage, 1960-89 = vintage/retro.
Posting an Item for Sale:
SELLER • You are required to provide a description (appears above the photo, not in the comments): location (no abbreviations), measurements/capacity, age/history (older than 1990), and price (OBO higher/auction must list a 24hr deadline). • Describe your items as honest as possible and include any imperfections (cracks, breaks, scratches/scuffs, dents, tears, smell, etc.) that a buyer needs to consider before they buy (no fishing for interest or “make offer”). If a buyer is going to take time/gas to drive to you, the item should be as described. If not, then buyer by all means can back out of the agreement. You are responsible for managing expectations such as payment options (PayPal to hold item? Cash only?) and pick up deadline. Be clear in your communication and save conversations in case you end up with a deadbeat buyer and need to dispute charges with your bank. • NO ALBUMS* Post ONE MAIN PHOTO per item. You may add more photos of the item within the comments after it’s posted; click the camera icon next to the comment box (might not be able to from a mobile device). *Adding multiple photos to an album instead of the comments may result in the photos/post (including comments!) being deleted without warning. When a comment is made on a photo in an album, that photo separates from the description and rest of the photo set then posts in the feed all by itself as a duplicate. This causes confusion for both buyer (it’s just a photo with no info) and seller (buyers commenting in separate posts about the same item). This may be different than other yard sale sites, but this rule has helped thousands of posts stay together and maintain the integrity of this group. Look at current posts to get an idea of what we mean by ONE main photo with additional in the comments. • The seller decides who to sell to: 1) in order of comments –OR– 2) a clear commitment to purchase (i.e. “I want!”) –OR– 3) take PM offers –OR– 4) to a buyer on other sites. Buyers must be clear in their comment if they want to commit to buy an item on this site. I'm interested, I might want this or asking questions might not entitle a buyer to the item if the seller wants to sell fast and goes with the first to commit or PM. The seller is responsible for managing buyers’ expectations. • All posts must be uploaded to the VYSU group from scratch (not from other FB pages, Ebay, Sharetown, KSL, etc). Linked or shared posts will be deleted without notice if you make buyers click out of VYSU to view or purchase your item. • BUMP: when the seller comments to get their post back up to the top of the feed (does not necessarily use the word “bump”). You may bump 1 time a day a maximum of 3 times. You will be banned if you delete your bumps/comments (or have someone bump for you). Due to feedback of some items continuously showing up at the top with little to no interest, we have a added a limit… If after 3 bumps and your item still has not sold, you may leave it (someone may search for it) or delete and repost once more IF the price is lowered. If after that many chances (2 separate posts with 3 bumps each is a minimum of 6 times at the top), the item must never be posted in the group again. Violators of this limit will be banned. • When you accept an offer, comment that it’s sold pending pick-up, make arrangements for pick-up through a private message, and delete the post/photo when the transaction is complete (hover your cursor to the right of your post for the drop down to delete.) If someone else offers more after you have already agreed to a price/buyer, you must decline their offer. If someone posts an item that you have to sell, do not be rude and use his or her post to sell your item; create your own post so the original seller doesn’t get all your notifications. • See ‘INBOX’ MESSAGE vs. ‘OTHER’ MESSAGE and do NOT mention why you need the money (medical bills, etc.) BUYER The seller decides who to sell to: 1) in order of comments –OR– 2) a clear commitment to purchase (i.e. “I want!”) –OR– 3) take PM offers –OR– 4) to a buyer on other sites. Be clear in your comment if you want to commit to buy an item on this site. I'm interested, I might want this or asking questions might not entitle you to the item if the seller wants to sell fast and goes with the first to commit or PM. Comment politely or your posts/membership may be deleted (do not message an admin about losing out on an item). Be courteous by responding as quickly and clearly as possible in the post then private message the seller your contact information and schedule a time to meet (see ‘INBOX’ MESSAGE vs. ‘OTHER’ MESSAGE). Pay and pick up in keeping with what you and the seller have agreed upon. If you don’t respond, the seller may move to the next buyer without notice. Some sellers earn their living here, so please pay and pick up promptly or you may be at risk of being banned.ADVERTISING Posting your sale, event, business, link, watermark, or hashtag in photo(s)/descriptions/comments without paying the advertising fee can result in losing your membership. To advertise, private message Christine Pratt Ishmael the following event information: name, date, start/end time, location, description/info, directions, photo, email for PayPal invoice/payment, and ad start date. After Christine receives the info and payment, SHE will post the event and tag you in it so you can follow, comment, and answer questions (Christine will not be responsible for maintaining or answering comments). YARD/ESTATE/CHARITY SALE $5/day (2 day minimum): 48 hour post, you may bump once per hour FLEA MARKET, BOUTIQUE, EVENT, or OTHER SALE $25: pinned to the top for 5 days ADMIN-HOSTED/APPROVED PUBLIC EVENTS: all VYSU members are invited. Vendors may post photos of event within the event post comments (do not start a new or separate post) IF given permission by an admin. SEARCH BOX Use the search box (magnifying glass under the right corner of the cover photo) to pull up your posts or items you’re looking for (especially before posting an ISO). Another way to search for your posts is to go to your own profile/wall, click on “Activity Log” located in the bottom right corner of your cover photo (“See your activity on Facebook” will appear if you hover over it), then click on “Your Posts” in the left column to get a list of what you have posted (with thumbnail picture) in date order. DEFINITIONS OOS = On Other Sites, FCFS = first come, first served; usually used by a motivated seller who is looking for a quick payment/pickup ‘INBOX’ message vs. ‘OTHER’ message Unless you are Facebook friends with another VYSU member or have messaged before, the messages (PM’s) you send will end up in their ‘Other’ folder (unless turned off in your settings). The ‘Other’ folder does not send notifications; so make a habit of checking the ‘Other’ folder in case a buyer/seller/admin is trying to contact you. Click on your messages button at the top then to the right of ‘Inbox’ is a gray 'Other' that you can click on to see messages from non-FB friends. OBO = or best offer. “$125 OBO” means you will take offers up to or less than $125 (not above). “$125 OBO above” means bids must be at least $125 and you must declare an end time within 24 hours with the highest bid being the winner. Do not change your description to “OBO higher” AFTER buyers have already commented. OOS = on other sites (many sellers might not disclose that they post their items several places) PPU = item is sold pending the payment and pick-up by buyer. ISO = “in search of” items to buy deleted after 24 hours without notice. ISO info/value/advice/referrals is not permitted. HONOR CODE Administrators and other members watch how you perform here and behaving dishonorably will put you at risk of being removed. Be courteous always, use good manners, be kind, talk nice; all the rules we learned in Kindergarten apply here! If you have an experience with a buyer/seller that might cause their membership to be questioned due to not following the rules, private message an administrator.
Using a fake profile, posting spam, or inappropriate comments are NOT allowed. Each seller is responsible for his or her own Utah State and Federal taxes.
BE SAFE! Private message your address and phone number or arrange a meeting place (best scenario). Follow your gut as you would on any site and remember SAFETY FIRST! If another member sends an inappropriate message to you, report them to Facebook and let a VYSU admin know. With thousands of members and counting, it is impossible to thoroughly background check every request to join. All transactions in the Vintage Yard Sale Utah site are at your own risk and discretion. FOLLOWING THE RULES IS MANDATORY Every rule has been set to help the buyer, seller, and admins make transactions run smoothly and following them is mandatory for everyone’s sake. Blocking admins will result in immediate banning. The admins are volunteers with busy lives of their own who help here because of their love of vintage goodness. Click Report/Mark as Spam in the drop down menu to the upper right corner of the post if you think an admin needs to take action. If you have any questions or concerns that cannot be worked out between yourselves, please send a private message to an administrator.
